APOGEE Tutorials

This page provides a detailed tutorial in the use of APOGEE data products. We will start with summary diagrams developed on Examples and perform a detailed investigation. While the main discourse on the Tutorial will be on this page, code supporting the investigation is available at the Code Repository (Github).

The Task at Hand

Many science projects start by looking for outliers in some diagrams, because the exception proves the rule. A key component of finding outliers and understanding how confident the measurement really is in that space. In this Tutorial, we will start by identifying outliers and then work through the APOGEE data products to determine if the outlier is reliable. This exercise can be generalized in a number of ways.

Code for this Tutorial can be found in the Tutorials Section of the APOGEE2 Repository (Github).

As of the DR17 release, this work is still in progress. We hope to update it in early 2022.
