APOGEE DR17 StarHorse distances, extinctions, and stellar parameters

This catalog combines high-resolution spectroscopic data from APOGEE DR17with broad-band photometric data from several sources (Pan-STARSS1, 2MASS and AllWISE), as well as parallaxes from Gaia EDR3. Using the Bayesian isochrone-fitting code StarHorse (Santiago et al. 2016; Queiroz et al. 2018,) we derive distances, extinctions, and astrophysical parameters for APOGEE stars. We achieve typical distance uncertainties ~5%, and extinctions uncertainties amount to ~0.05 mag for stars with available PanSTARRS-1 photometry, and ~0.17 mag for stars with only infra-red photometry. The estimated StarHorse parameters are robust to changes in the Galactic priors assumed and corrections for Gaia parallax zero-point offset. This catalog represents an update of the DR14-based results presented in Queiroz et al. (2018), and is described in more detail in Queiroz et al. (2020).

We recommend that you always use the most recent version of this catalog, which is DR17. The DR16 version of this VAC is still available on the SAS here, with data model available here.

A previous version of the DR16 VAC contained a small number of special targets that were assigned incorrect IDs (see this page). Make sure that you use the most recent version of this DR16 VAC, which is apogee_starhorse-DR16-v1.fits. This new version does not contain the stars that have previously been associated with the wrong object in the inner APOGEE DR16 catalogues. We performed an ID cross-match and took the 34 stars with the reported and removed them.
