Here we discuss the selection biases present in APOGEE data and provide references.
APOGEE spectra are not taken for a random set of all possible stars in the field. To use the APOGEE observations to recover the underlying stellar populations, there are several biases to consider.
The following papers have detailed discussions of the selection bias and present ways to account for them.
